White-Veined Dutchman's Pipevine
Due to state-level plant regulations we are currently only shipping plants within the state of KS. More states will be added in the near future!
White Veined Hardy Dutchman’s Pipevine (Aristolochia fimbriata) is a small herbaceous, poorly-twining vine with beautiful heart-shaped leaves and dramatic silvery veins. Stems grow prostrate to the ground, making this plant a wonderful option as a ground cover or as fill/spill in hanging baskets. A. fimbriata is evergreen in zones that do not freeze. In colder zones it dies back to the ground with new growth appearing in late spring to early summer. Wonderful as a host plant for both Pipevine Swallowtails and Polydamas Swallowtails. Plant it, and they will come! Performs best in part-shade.
HARDINESS ZONES | 7 - 11, but can be mulched to extend hardiness (comes back each year for us in Zone 6)
MATURE HEIGHT | 18-24 inches
SPREAD | 2 ft, sprawling
SUN | Part shade to full sun, but performs better in part shade
WATER | Medium-Low; prefers rich, well-drained soil
LARVAL HOST | Pipevine Swallowtails (Battus philenor); Polydamas Swallowtails (Battus polydamas)
This is one of our favorite species of pipevine. The cute one-inch yellow & brown flowers remind some of elephant trunks, but they reminds us of the tropical carnivorous pitcher plants (Nepenthes)! A great plant to add variety in leaf-form and color.
Native to Argentina, Paraguay and southern Brazil.
PRE-ORDERS BEGIN | 05 MARCH 2021
PLANT SIZE: FIRST-YEAR PLANTS IN 4" NURSERY POTS (3.5in square x 4in tall)
